As you are most likely aware, we are under a winter storm warning though Thursday evening. According to our friends at WGHP Fox 8 News there is a 100% chance of significant snow fall and possibly ice in their viewing area. Ice can be very damaging to property so in case you experience damage, I wanted to let you know what to do to prepare for winter storm Pax and how to prevent further damage.
Our office may be closed tomorrow depending on the arrival of the storm. We will be answering phones though and will be here for you in case you have damage and need to file a property or auto insurance claim.
Call us at 336-869-3335 should you need to report damage.
If you have damage after business hours, you can call the insurance company directly but we prefer to speak with you before contacting the company if it can wait until normal business hours.
There is a possibility of widespread power outages. Here are some tips to help you prepare in case you lose power…
- Notify the power company right away.
- Make sure your flashlights and batteries can be accessed easily.
- It’s not recommended to use candles but if you do, be sure they are far enough away from flammable materials.
- Lower awnings and patio furniture umbrellas
- Fully charge cell phones. Have your car phone charger ready if needed.
- Fill up your car’s gas tank.
- Turn your refrigerator and freezer to the lowest settings
- Freeze water jugs or bottles. These can be used to keep the temperature down longer in your refrigerator and freezer
- Unplug electronics and appliances. A power surge can occur when your power comes back on and could damage these.
- Allow a small stream of water to run from faucets to prevent pipes from freezing.
Also, the mail gets delivered in the rain, sleet and snow so be kind and shovel a clear path to your mailbox.
We wish you best during the storm and please let us know if you need our help.
Thank you for your business and referrals!
