Approximately every 15 seconds a home in the U.S. is being broken into and your home could be next! When burglars invade your home, there is a sense of violation that the homeowner feels. The break-in not only impacts your losing some valuables, but it violates your sense of safety and well-being. Let me tell you a true story, not to scare you but to inform you of the importance of protecting your home from burglars.
What if This Happened to You?
My neighbor, while away on a weekend trip, came home on Easter Sunday to learn that her home had been burglarized for the second time in four years. The first time, the intruders stole ALL of her very expensive and some heirloom jewelry that she had collected over 30 years of extensive travel, among many other valuable items that she had in her home. Unfortunately, her jewelry was not scheduled under her N.C. homeowners insurance policy; thus leaving her ONLY with the standard $1500 limit of insurance for jewelry from theft.
The most recent invasion that occurred over Easter weekend, the intruders used a crow bar to break into the back door. The ironic thing is that she had a security system in place with signage in the front yard, but her home is currently for sale, leaving the burglars with the anticipation that the security system would be turned off so that the Realtors could show the home. The intruders were correct, leaving them entry into the back door and wiping her out of jewelry and cash, among other valuables once again. This time, I hope that she had her jewelry and other valuables scheduled under her N.C. homeowners insurance policy so that she will be able to collect replacement cost or agreed value for them. *More information on scheduling valuables coming this month.
